SFE Generation 2

The device shown in the image is an example of what we refer to as a 2nd-generation or Gen 2 device. These devices marked a breakthrough in our understanding of the phenomenon, but were still limited in very similar ways to what we observed in Gen 1.

 

So, there was a need for further progress. Still, Gen 2 looked very promising and was definitely moving the technology forward.

This type of device has been tested in a vacuum and produced a small but effective thrust. Until recently, this was the main configuration that we had planned to test in orbit on board a CubeSat.

The CubeSat mission is still the plan, but now we are focusing on a new thruster design.
